Radionavigation - eLoran

The GLAs have been providing their prototype eLoran trial service since 2007. eLoran satisfies the requirements of the international maritime community for a digital e-Navigation future that specifies an independent, dissimilar and complementary back-up for GNSS. eLoran allows users to retain GNSS-levels of navigational safety even when satellite services are disrupted.

The eLoran service is being operated in conjunction with Babcock International Group on a trial basis. The low frequency signals are being transmitted from Babcock’s site in Cumbria, which has been integrated into the European network of eLoran transmitters controlled from Brest, France.
