2011 - News - R&RNAV make UTC measurements for eLoran at NPL

Wed, 20 Jul 2011

As part of the Sentinel project, R&RNAV visited the National Physical Laboratory in Teddington on 20th July to make UTC-alignment calibration measurements for the eLoran receiver used in the project.

The transmissions of all eLoran stations are kept synchronised to Universal Co-ordinated Time (UTC), and by measuring the arrival of the signals at NPL against their atomic clock we can observe the signal delay precisely. This allows us to measure ASF, a critical component of Differential-Loran and key to achieving the best performance from the system.

Once properly calibrated, Sentinel will be able to provide this valuable ASF information on a 24/7 basis wherever the receivers are deployed.
