The R&RNAV paper “Understanding GNSS availability and its impact on maritime safety” authored by Grant, Williams, Shaw, De Voy and Ward, was recently presented at the US Institute of Navigation (ION) International Technical Meeting (ITM). The paper discussed the potential events and actions which may result in a loss of GNSS signals, or the degradation of the resulting position, navigation and timing information. As such it covered topics such as space weather, satellite constellation maintenance and the consequences of GPS jamming events. The paper was well received and sparked discussion as to the effects of jamming and means of mitigation. A copy of the paper will be issued with the ION ITM conference proceedings and is available on their website for attendees.
