GLA R&RNAV hosted a meeting of RTCM Special Committee 127 on eLoran Standardisation in Harwich on 22 & 23 July, with R&RNAV Principal Development Engineer Dr Paul Williams in the chair. Distinguished participants included Prof David Last, Prof Durk van Willigen and Bob Markle, the Director of RTCM*.
GLA Research Director Dr Nick Ward gave a presentation on the standardisation process through IMO, ITU, IEC and IALA. Then Jan Safar, Casper Lebekwe and Chris Hargreaves described the leading research work they are carrying out for R&RNAV on eLoran. Progress reports were provided on the Minimum Performance Specification for the eLoran signal, on receiver standards and on ASF production.
*RTCM is the Radio Technical Commission for Maritime Services, which plays a leading role internationally in preparing standards for maritime radio navigation and communications systems
