2010 - News - R&RNAV paper receives 2010 Michael Richey Medal

The R&RNAV paper “GPS Jamming and the Impact on Maritime Navigation“ by Alan Grant, Paul Williams, Nick Ward and Sally Basker has been awarded the 2010 Michael Richey Medal by the Royal Institute of Navigation for the best paper published in the Journal of Navigation in 2009.

The paper reports on the results of GPS jamming trials conducted off Flamborough Head in 2008 and on the performance of an eLoran receiver during GPS service denial. The article is available for purchase direct from the publisher’s website. A presentation based on the paper and given at the Royal Institute of Navigation, GNSS Vulnerabilities and Solutions Conference in Croatia in September 2008 and is freely available for download from the R&RNAV website.

Commenting on the award Dr Nick Ward of R&RNAV said “Based on our findings the threat to navigation from accidental or intentional GPS jamming events is a real danger and eLoran offers a complementary navigation system to ensure resilient PNT“
