2010 - News - IALA e-Navigation Committee

08 October 2010

At the IALA e-Navigation Committee in September contributions to the gap analysis were prepared for submission to the correspondence group on VTS and SAR and previous contributions on radio-navigation and radio-communications were reviewed.

The subject of resilient position-fixing was raised again and it was proposed to the IALA Council that a comprehensive study on the subject should be prepared for submission to IMO.

There was growing support for the idea of a dedicated e-Navigation display using the pilot plug, at least in the demonstration phase.

The meeting heard about developments in the European EfficienSea project which is providing a test-bed for e-Navigation applications in the Baltic.

An IALA study of alternatives to GNSS has been proposed, the results of which would be made available to IMO.
