In December 2009 the GLA R&RNAV team ran GPS jamming trials aboard THV Galatea.The trials, which took place off Tynemouth, demonstrated the vulnerability of GPS systems to interference from jamming devices. The trials and their implications for shipping are the focus of an article "GPS- Going Pear-Shaped" in this month's edition of the Nautilus Telegraph.
